DONOVAN’S REEF BECOMES THE FIRST CERTIFIED GREEN RESTAURANT™ IN CONNECTICUT

Branford, CT – December 2008. Donovan’s Reef is proud to be the first Certified Green Restaurant™ in Connecticut! Donovan’s Reef has been in business for 20 years, but recently decided to work toward lessening its environmental impact. Donovan’s is proud to spread the message that even established restaurants can change their habits and implement new practices that make a huge difference. Donovan’s began working with the national non-profit in July 2008, to incorporate sustainability into the day-to-day operation of the restaurant.

“Our hope is that the Certification will show our customers how committed we are to the sustainable restaurant movement,” says owner, Greg Bozzi. “We want people to know that we understand how valuable the environment and our natural resources are to us all. So when you come to Donovan’s Reef you become part of the Environmental Solution.” It’s that simple.

Through their work with the GRA, the restaurant has accomplished 11 steps under the GRA guidelines. Their steps include installing energy efficient lighting, low-flow faucet aerators in their kitchen to conserve water, and a full-scale recycling program. The restaurant is now also composting their food waste.

“Donovan’s Reef is off to a great start in becoming more environmentally sustainable, and we’re thrilled about their Certified Green Restaurant™ status,” says Michael Oshman, Executive Director of the Green Restaurant Association. “We commend Donovan’s Reef for the steps they’ve taken and look forward to helping them complete even more.”

Donovan’s Reef Restaurant is a warm and inviting American Grille located in the historic Branford Lock Works building in Branford Center. Greg Bozzi, owner and Executive Chef has been operating the restaurant out of this location for almost twenty years; he has created the perfect combination of food, drink, and fun in a unique family atmosphere. Greg takes his passion for food and entertainment and instills it into his staff, of family and friends who are all too happy to provide you with the best of service.
